The Burmese have always called their country Myanmar. Its the English who called it Burma. The people are warm, welcoming and outgoing. Many speak some English, at least in the cities. The minority groups live in small villages.
They farm, weave the fabric for their clothes, and have small cottage industries. Come, sit down Mama. Have some tea. How many times I heard that while traveling in Myanmar. The people dont call each other by name only. They use either sister, mama, grandmother or the equivalent for men. |
