Nepalese Woman
“Sitting on the Edge”
Namaste younger sister (brother). This is her greeting to you and how she treats you...as a sister or brother. She cooks over a wood or yak dung fire, carries water to her home from a stream, farms the land by hand while caring for the children. Her husband is away from home for weeks at a time working as a porter carrying heavy loads up and down the mountain trails. The children care for their younger siblings and help at home. The lucky ones go to school.
They may have to walk more than a half-day from their village for the nearest medical clinic. There are weekly markets in nearby villages where they can buy and sell meat, vegetables, and clothing. Some villagers have yak herds. They use them to carry goods and use their milk to make cheese and butter.
The Nepalese people tease and laugh easily. Most villages don’t have electricity or roads leading to them, thus the people entertain themselves.
The beauty of the Nepalese people even exceeds the beauty of their country. They touched my heart and I am changed forever...
